Catclaw acacia earns its name from the wickedly recurved thorns present at the nodes. It flowers in spring and sporadically throughout the season. Catclaw acacia is found on shallow caliche soil to deep sand that is almost always alkaline, although it is tolerant of most any well drained soil. It can handle extreme heat and drought.
