| Fragrant Ash, Flowering Ash, Fresno Fraxinus cuspidata Oleaceae Fragrant ash has strongly fragrant white-petaled flowers that sometimes cover the tree in a blanket of white. It is the only ash that has flower corollas; the four petals have long, narrow lobes somewhat resembling those of the fringe tree (Chionanthus virginicus). It is an attractive small tree or large shrub that grows in the Trans-Pecos mountains, both in slightly acidic igneous soil and slightly alkaline limestone. It grows in cultivation on the heavy clay soils of the Blackland Prairie.
